This monograph focuses on the ethical and practical challenges faced by higher education in the era of generative artificial intelligence (GAI). It examines the way in which GAI tools are refocusing teaching and learning, whilst also posing questions about academic integrity. It considers the plagiarism detection strategies and editorial practices used to tackle plagiarism in academic publications and examines the prevalence and factors of plagiarism within newly enrolled students. It investigates the international reach of the academic fraud industry and reflects on the ethical impact of GAI in education, highlighting the need for clear and practical innovative pedagogical guidelines to guide both students and educators in this dynamic setting.
