Abstract

This study examines the perception of students from different knowledge areas at the University X regarding their English classes as the preferred language for enhancing their foreign language skills, in addition to the family motivation received. It also analyses the significant differences between their academic degree and that of their parents. A descriptive study was carried out by means of a survey, also applying Kruskall-Wallis and Cohen's d tests. The results show positive evaluations in terms of autonomous learning and the family stimulus received. On the other hand, there are discrepancies about colleagues, teachers and their methodology. One of the main conclusions is the strong influence of the student's degree and the academic level of their parents over their perception of English classes.
