Abstract

The objective of the current study is to present the reader with an account of the state of the art of the methodological issues inherent to research into history of translation. To achíeve this, we will first outline the antecedents to the modem interestin the subject. We will then move on to map out its place wíthin Translation Studies as a first step towards demonstrating the relevance of teaching and studying history of translation. Here, we will especíally insist on the importance of our subject within the discipline. Finally, we will comment on sorne of the publícations that deal with methodology in order to highlight a number of the problems inherent to research in history of translation. We will conclude this work with a proposal that establishes aseries of phases that are unavoidable in all historical research and that may be considered equally valid in history of interpreting as, despite the differences, both types of historical research draw on the common ground of interlinguistic mediation.
