Abstract

This study aims to understand how the spatial sense was developed in a moment of free play in the nursery between 11 children (12/24 months) and an adult, in the episode called tower of cubes. Adopting the interpretive paradigm, participant observation was used to access the data. The results reveal behaviors of children and adults (e.g., children approach and move away from the construction site; the adult models behaviors) that lead us to infer that the child develops the spatial sense intuitively and spontaneously, in the interaction with objects, with peers and with responsive adult(s).
