Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study analysing the efficiency of a system of exercises in practical classes of simultaneous interpretation. First, the basic theories which gave rise to the study are outlined, together with the context and experimental design (groups of students, methodology and materials). The subjects’ initial levels of competence were established through preliminary evaluation, while post-experimental evaluation results and an SI exercise were used to assess their possible evolution. Analysis of the data allows us to classify the subjects of the main group according to their initial skills. The results would seem to confirm the need for students to possess firm linguistic and cultural grounding in order to be able to achieve an acceptable level in practical SI classes.
