Abstract

Although in recent years, Russian society has undergone an important process of adaptation of legislation to international practice, there are still no laws regulating the activity of sworn translation. Nowadays in Russia, the legalization of a translated document  is  carried out by a notary, who only certifies the signature of the person who performed the translation, but not its contents. Present Russian legislation does not make clear who can work as sworn translator or what qualifications are needed. However, this situation may  change due to the passing in the near future of the law “On sworn translators” in the Russian Duma and to the establishment of the Institute of the Sworn Translator as a self-regulatory  body for the profession and its activity.
