LA TRADUCCIÓN DE DOCUMENTOS MARÍTIMOS. CLASIFICACIÓN DE LOS PRINCIPALES GÉNEROS Y MARCO DE ANÁLISIS

Abstract

This paper presents part of the results from the author’s Ph.D. thesis concerning the translation of legal and administrative documents related to maritime activity, entitled Contrastive analysis of maritime law genres for translation (Spanish-English). The documents most frequently translated in this field are presented with a classi- fication based on the concept of textual genre, and a framework for analysing such documents is established. The objective is to introduce the principal documents used in this field to professional and trainee translators, as well as to design an analytical tool which may contribute to their successful translation.
