POLÍTICAS DE TRADUCCIÓN Y PUBLICACIÓN DE LAS REVISTAS DE CIENCIA FICCIÓN ARGENTINAS (1979- 1987)

Abstract

This paper analyses the translation, publication and promotion of Argentinian science fiction magazines in the eighties. It is proposed that such translation functioned essentially in two different ways: first of all, it acted as a means of presenting and reconstructing a European branch of the genre, an operation which aimed at crea- ting a genealogy in which Argentinian science fiction may be situated and thought of in evolutionary terms. Secondly, translation was a procedure which enabled and promoted local narrative and critical production.

Finally, it is argued that the translation and publication of these magazines had the corollary effect of promoting certain local authors, among them the Uruguayan writer Mario Levrero.
