Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to describe the state of the question on the assessment of interpreting quality, especially quality in the medical field. We have therefore divided the article into different sections, three of them more general and one last section specific of interpreting in medical conferences: (1) an analysis of the different definitions of the quality concept; (2) an analysis of the most relevant parameters which influence and determine the interpreting quality; (3) a brief analysis of the experimental and empírical studies on quality from the user's perspective, and (4) an analysis of the studíes on quality in the medical field from the user's perspective. We have also included a section in which we explain briefly the results of an empírical study we have carried out with interpreters specialized in medical conferences, especially those results related to quality assessment in this kind of event.
