Abstract

The aim of this paper is to think over gender-based violence, and particularly on possible tools for its prevention. To address this, the socialization process is taken as a starting point. After defining this process, we present the theory of differential socialization and we discuss what this model represents on the socialization and in the lives of men and women in general and on partner relationships and romantic love in particular. This analysis is structured around the concept of "gender mandates". Following we introduce briefly the concept of romantic love and myths derived from it, reflecting on the possible links between this understanding of love and the genesis and maintenance of gender violence. Finally, we review and discuss some suggestions of intervention from the perspective of preventive socialization of gender violence.
