Imaginaries, myths and attitudes against bisexuality in students of Social Work
Main Article Content
Abstract
In a patriarchal, male chauvinist and heterocentric system, myths (traditional stories that contain patterns of behavior and altered realities) and stereotypes (false conceptions product of simplified mental images) are used to devalue people with a sexual orientation different of those models traditionally established.Taking into consideration the students of Social Work of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), a research through a mixed method is proposed, in order to analyze the level of aversion towards bisexuality and the depth of the existing myths about bisexuality. The results show there are positive attitudes toward bisexuality, as well as an imaginary based on the principle of equality and a medium-low level of internalization of the different myths about bisexuality. On the other hand it is observed that attitudes and myths are directly related.
