Abstract

For the majority of society, Roma people share situations of marginality, poverty and high social exclusion, which generate stigmas and social prejudices. The general objective of this research is to analyse the vision of non-Roma university students in the field of social work about the Roma community in terms of the social imaginary that is developed on cultural and social aspects. Methodologically, and given the nature of the objective of this study, this research adopts a quantitative methodology in which a total of 431 students participated. The analysis of the opinions of sectors of the population requires quantitative measurements of observable and objective figures. The study presented here shows how the social imagination of students in different degrees related to Social Work continues to hold stereotypes and prejudices about the Romany population. As main conclusions, the thoughts show social constructs that are detrimental to the relationships and social inclusion of Roma people.
