Abstract

Approaching translation from a sociological standpoint, this article studies the extent of translation in the Science section of the Spanish national daily newspaper El Mundo. Our first aim is to answer various questions about the nature of the translated texts which were published in the section during the first five years of its existence, such as the volume  of translation, the sources of the texts and the languages translated. Secondly, the study  focuses on the translation strategies which are applied to translate scientific articles, and outlines the newspaper’s translation policy.
