This article presents a study of different translations of the word ‘ahora’ from the novel Entre visillos by Carmen Martin Gaite, in ‘À travers les persiennes’, its French version. on the one hand, the study focuses on the translation of ‘ahora’ by the adverbial phrase ‘à présent’, the most frequent solution in the French version, although apparently at odds with the oral character of most of the sentences in which this adverbial phrase appears, given that the register in the original version is highly colloquial. on the other hand, the article aims to examine the connotations of temporality and other shades of meaning presented by the Spanish adverb, which may be substituted by diverse phrases, as shown in various tables. The analysis is conceived as a part of a larger comparative study of translation variants/non-translation of ‘ahora’ in other novels by the same author.
