Abstract

This paper argues for the need of a neutralized variety of Spanish (so-called Neutral Spanish, International Spanish, General Spanish or Standard Spanish, similarto Global English and deplored by many) not only in the standard usage, but also in specialized communication domains. Neutral Spanish is envisaged as a means toachieve a more fluent and homogeneous communication, to resist the constant interference from English, the lingua franca (particulary in the Spanish-speaking regions of USA), and to contribute to the systematization of certain linguistics uses that can significantly help professionals of linguistic mediation, translators among them.
