Abstract

The article is a reflective description and evaluation of the new guidelines for attention to multiculturality in Cataluña. It reviews the history of the process up to the present. It offers a dense description of the reality in Cataluña in this area of reflection. It describes the most common organizational and pedagogical proposals. It emphasizes what it deems most pertinent and appropriate in a model for action. From there, it offers some lines of interest and debate in these topics, which are useful for other practical contexts. It pays special attention to language problems as factors of social and educational inclusion or exclusion. Finally, the paper tries to illustrate – in order to improve understanding- the reasons and projects that lie behind the actions of the Generalitat, which are sometimes poorly understood and stereotyped.
