Decentralization of pre-service training for school management in Spain

Resumen
In Spain, the Organic Law of Education (LOE, 2006) establishes on the selection process for school
head which should do a mandatory initial training program, which will be organized by the
regional education authorities.
In this paper compares the regulatory framework from the most significant aspects of the
programs that regulate the formation in the 17 Spanish Autonomous Communities. The results
show that, although there is a common management model for the entire Spanish territory, there
is significant disparity in initial training the school head. It also suggests some measures to
improve such training.
