The school in rural areas: education and local development

Resumen

This text discusses the possibilities of community intervention in a rural school, as conditions for
teaching and educational innovation and local development. Within a broader project, in which the
author was involved for over 20 years, reflected on experiences and initiatives that confront pedagogy
and social work place, impact on school work with teachers and students. It was purposeful that the
state or ignored or wished to end with a public education policy for the elimination of smaller schools,
their educational potential as a public service and community. Therefore, the project was still a matter
of resistance to this offensive that gave it outlines, expectations and results to take into account the
articulation between education and local development, as proposed and practice of social intervention-
called civil society.
