Use of ITC and 2.0 Web tools by Portuguese primary and special education teachers: The importance of the personal competences

Resumen

This study aims to analyze the role of personal skills as attitudes and self-efficacy in relation to the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) and Web 2.0 tools among teachers from the Regular and Special Education. It was used a quantitative methodology with a sample of
200 Portuguese Primary and Special Education teachers. Data was collected about ICT and Web 2.0 tools use, a Self-Efficacy Scale in Relation to Computer and the Attitudes toward Computers in Education Scale and a Scale about Computer Use. Results suggest that most teachers use ICT in
their daily personal and professional tasks, as well as Web 2.0 tools, being the most frequent the YouTube and Blogs by Primary Education teachers and Special Education teachers. Inferential studies allow us to check differences in attitudes and self-efficacy in terms of personal and
professional variables. The obtained data were analyzed considering implications for teacher education and suggestions for further studies.
