Igualdade dos géneros

RELIEVE is committed to Gender Equality Policy that drives real equality between males and females in present society. This commitment is reflected through various core actions.

      a) Editorial participation

RELIEVE believes that it is important to achieve a balanced distribution of males and females within its editorial management structures. Currently, 48% of members of its editorial team are women. Further, over the last five years (2020-2024), the mean percentage of female evaluators/reviewers assessing articles submitted to RELIEVE reaches 51.8%. This mean percentage coincides with that representing the number of women who have been authors of articles published in RELIEVEMore information on gender statistics  can be found in the RELIEVE journal.

      b) Inclusive language

RELIEVE recommends that articles be written using inclusive language that considers the presence and situation of women in society and complies with the principle of equality between the sexes. In this sense, it is advised that generic terminology (they, them, their) be used to refer to all individuals within a class or group. At the same time, texts that comply with RAE norms on the subject will be considered acceptable.

      c) Sex and gender in research

Study reports should avoid stereotypes and gender biases that adopt the masculine as the universal reference, exacerbate biological differences or normalize socially-constructed differences. Equally, it is recommended that the sex variable be considered, regardless of the type of research being presented, by reporting the sex distribution of study samples and by analyzing and reporting potential differences  as a function of sex. In this regard, it is suggested that authors consult the manual: gender in research.
