This article contains an extract of the contents of two interviews with the social worker and researcher Marco Marchioni, carried out during the summer of 2019. The interviews were conducted as part of a research project that has sought to recover memories and history of social work in Spain from the 1960s to the 1980s, as well as the possible influences on it of the Latin American Reconceptualisation Movement. In a global context such as the current one, in which inequalities are progressively increasing and rights are being curtailed in many territories within the framework of neoliberal discourse, it is necessary to recall the political dimension and the commitment of the Social Work profession to the defence of democracy and the role of citizenship. Both are fundamental aspects on which Marchioni worked and defended tirelessly throughout his long career. This work is also intended as a small tribute to one of the most important figures of the last fifty years of the Social Work profession in Spain.
