Análisis espacial de los indicadores de habitabilidad en los municipios de la Región de Murcia (España)

Abstract

Residential exclusion is a complex and multi-causal phenomenon, caused mainly by social exclusion. The main manifestation of social exclusion is the lack of access to decent and appropriate housing. Unfortunately, many families do not have a home with the basic conditions for their habitability. In this investigation, first, the data referring to the habitability conditions of the municipalities of the Region of Murcia are described and, secondly, through an exploratory spatial analysis, the evolution of the indicators is studied in the municipalities. The data is obtained from the Population and Housing Censuses of 2001 and 2011. The main conclusions are that habitability conditions are distributed heterogeneously throughout the region, the conditions of habitability of the municipalities are conditioned by the neighbouring municipalities, most municipalities have improved their living conditions and there are concentrations of municipalities with similar habitability values, which suggests that public policies and actions should focus on an extension greater than the municipal term. This study can be used for the decision-making of public managers in the planning of social intervention policies, as well as for social workers to be able to act on the problems related to poor housing conditions in urban and rural areas.
