Abstract

Several elements in the workplace interfere with the hiring process of persons with disabilities. This article offers a study on the methods of recruitment and selection carried out by medium and large companies of the great Caracas and their manifest interest in to contact for employment’s interviews people with permanent disability, expressed during March to August of the year 2017. A non-probabilistic-incidental sample of three hundred economic units cataloged as medium and large company by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) was selected, which for the study period made had called for hiring workers through advertisements published in printed newspapers and jobseeker’s web pages. A total of three hundred resume’s pair were sent, each pair with same contents concerning knowledge, experiences, and competencies of the person aspiring to the position, but with the difference that only one presented a condition of permanent disability. Then, the proportion of return of calls or emails received to agree a job interview was measured. The difference registered in the resulting proportions are attributable to the condition of disability, which coincides with the legal definition of discrimination.
