Abstract

The special characteristics around the complicated process of gender-based violence require addressing this social scourge from an integral dimension, understanding the peculiar psychological, physical, economic, and emotional conditions in which the woman, victim of violence, and her offspring are imprisoned, thus living under terror. It is a serious problem with an important social dimension that should not be ignored. This paper aims to address the keys to prevention and intervention against gender-based violence from the point of view of Social Work. Aspects such as the design of campaigns in connection with the main socializing agents (family, school, mass media), as well as the specific training of professionals and the keys to a correct social approach to an already consummated case of violence are the core of this proposal. Intervening correctly and effectively both before and after it are very important premises of Social Work in cases of gender-based violence. The support provided by the social work area can help in decision-making, thus being part of a process that will allow victims to feel supported.
