Abstract

Gender-based violence is a community problem, that is, all members of the community have the responsibility to prevent, overcome and eradicate it. In 2021, 21,857 gender-based violence complaints were filed in Catalonia. In this context, the Generalitat of Catalonia has different care and recovery services for survivors of gender violence. However, numerous studies in the area of overcoming gender violence have shown that this type of service is not usually a priority for women who are going through this situation, due to reasons such as the isolation of their support networks, victimization and loss of agency, among others. This research focuses on Specialized Intervention Services (SIE) and aims, on the one hand, to analyze how they carry out Network Oriented Work to end the isolation of survivors and overcome gender violence and, on the other hand, identify the challenges and opportunities they have encountered in this task. Qualitative interviews were conducted and three of the four directors of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona participated. Key findings show that all three largely meet the five dimensions of Network-Oriented Work and have highlighted the transformative dimension of community participation in women’s recovery from gender-based violence.
