Abstract

The process that results to burnout syndrome has been extensively studied in the scientific literature. This syndrome, which turns up mainly in professions with a direct and constant contact with users, has traditionally been studied in health, education, and to a lesser extent, in caring professions. However, the increasing development of research on burnout in social work and in the helping professions in general, reveals the interest of these professional groups in assuming and understanding the consequences for health resulting from their work activity, as well as the interest shown in developing coping strategies. This work seeks to collect, as a balance, the scientific contributions that have been made in Spain about burnout and social work in the last ten years, summarizing some of the main results obtained on the basis of the variables associated with the syndrome, as well as the possible preventive measures recommended by these researches.
