Abstract
There are different forms of childhood mistreatment situations (physical, emotional, and psychological) that are complex to identify in terms of incidence, frequency and risk factors. It is necessary to clearly identify risk factors situations from a multidisciplinary approach, understanding that all types of abuse are harmful to children’s development and can cause long-term difficulties. The aim of this paper is to address the key factors in prevention and intervention regarding child’s mistreatment in the context of an Early Intervention Center (EIC) placed in Barcelona. The first step was to consider with all the professionals (psychologists, speech language therapists, social worker and physiotherapists) of the EIC the conceptualization they had about childhood mistreatment; the second step consisted in reaching an agreement in order to design a protocol to detect and approach mistreatment cases. Finally, the conclusions about the key aspects obtained are described, regarding professional intervention, early detections and approach about child mistreatment at Edai’s ECI.
