Since 1996, the holders of the Spanish degree in Translation and Interpreting have been exempted from the Sworn Translator-Interpreter exam set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as long as they provide evidence that they have received specific training in both legal and/or economic translation and interpreting. However, there are no accurate data available on this professional activity, and it is still a rather unknown profession not only for the general public but also for some members of the academia. This paper presents the results of a study based on one focus group with graduates from the University of Granada who have qualified as Sworn Translators- Interpreters following the abovementioned procedure, in order to provide a panorama of sworn translating and interpreting (English-Spanish) from the statements made by the participants in our study.
