Abstract

The use of subtitles as a support in foreign language learning has proven to be very beneficial in many ways. This article explores the possibilities offered by the main types of subtitles in existence (subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, bimodal, traditional, and reversed) and analyses the various research studies that have dealt with their pedagogical value over the last decades. This overview will allow readers to obtain a general perspective of all the aspects of foreign language learning that can be improved by using this didactic resource.
