Abstract

The literary figure of Edmondo De Amicis, a late 19th.-century Italian writer, became internationally known following the publication in Italy of Cuore (1886), his most charismatic work, as well as being his most well-known novel in Europe. In our article, our objective has been to study the influence of De Amicis in Spain, analysing the writer's relations with the literary and polítical circles in our country during the years following the Carlist Wars. We have also made a critica! study of all the translations into Spanish made from 1877 up to 1908, the year of the Italian author's death. Furthermore, we have deemed it necessary to include a bibliographic index of all De Amicis's works that have been translated in Spain.
