The historical overview of children’s and young adult literature shows how has undergone changes over the centuries, changes which also affected its strictly pedagogical character. The development of the notion of children’s and young adult literature culminated in the development of crossover fiction. The latter refers to texts which cross borders and are capable of being interpreted by children and adults. The works chosen reevaluate through their textual components the rigidity of readership often imposed on books for children and adolescents and underline the role which children’s and young adult literary works have in terms of literary aesthetic experimentation.
