Abstract

This work studies the Grupo Cántico (Canticle Group) and its literary journal: Cántico. Hojas de Poesía (Canticle. Pages of Poetry). Firstly, the translations appearing in the twenty-one issues of the Cordoban group's publications, released in two periods, are recorded and their concepts analysed: the first (from 1947 to 1949) contains eight publications; the second (from 1954 to 1957) is composed of thirteen issues, two of which were double. The translations are presented and classified according to their source languages (French, English, Italian, Chinese and German, mainly), also delving into the theoretical and critical references to foreign literatures that arise in relation to each translation or set of translations. Second, some examples illustrating the selection of texts, editorial parameters, and equivalences applied, are presented. Finally, the thematic tendencies and the rhetorical and stylistic affinities that underlie the selection of texts are set forth to demonstrate the openness that this publication furnished Cordoban and Spanish literature.
