Abstract

The aim of this article is to highlight the importance of the ruins in Western Literature, focusing on the exciting submarine voyage undertaken by Jules Verne. The location of the mythical city in the Atlantic is justified by his knowledge of the Classical Tradition, following the most ancient source, Plato. Beyond the geographical location, the presence of the mythical city refers to a deeper meaning that starts making sense within the personal Vernerian Universe.
