Abstract
With the irruption of performance art, while the modern city becomes the scene for a union between art and life, walking as a practice is transformed into an artistic activity in itself. This paper focuses on the work of prominent walking performers in the Spanish and Latin American urban environment between the 90s of the 20th century and today, and raises a reflection on walking as an immaterial creative act in the crowded metropolitan space. Between the intimate and the rebellious, the artists develop a series of strategies that allow us to understand to what extent the rhythms dictated by power structures affect our way of inhabiting the city. All of them free themselves from the imposed norms to follow non-traced ways.
