For more than one and a half of a century, the authors of detective novel have proved their capacity to renew and adapt it to the needs and concerns of each society in various historical contexts. The detective novel largely enjoys great success in Latin American countries and on the Iberian Peninsula, as it offers an updated account of events that respond well to the economic, political and moral crises of the contemporary age. The detective novel has also managed to offer a critical analysis of the recent past in order to uncover the dysfunctions of modern day reality in the described region. This article is therefore an attempt to unravel the circumstances leading the writers from both sides of the Atlantic to write at the same time this contemporary narrative that is free from formal and generic constraints. Their aim is to offer the chronicle of societies plunged into deep disenchantment.Downloads
