Abstract

In this brief memoir about my experience as a Latin American student studying Romance Languages at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, I recollect about the difficulties of being there in the midst of the Franco dictatorship; but I also give testimony also about the immensely rich literary experience that opened up befote me: I was able to share closely with Dámaso Alonso, José Hierro, Vicente Aleixandre, Gerardo Diego, among many others; I was duly impressed by my colleague Luis Rafael Sánchez´s radiant personality, and I was able to follow in Rubén Darío´s footsteps in provincial Navalsauz, where the famous Nicaraguan poet lived with Francisca Sánchez.
