Teatro y poder político en el siglo XVIII: consideraciones en torno a El jugador, de Pablo de Olavide
Abstract
In the 18th century there was, in Spain, a general politicization of culture. Depending on
the period, the ideological trends varied, but the close link between art and politics was a common
denominator. Through the analysis of the comedy El jugador (1774) by Pablo de Olavide (translationadaptation
of Le joueur by Regnard) this paper is approaching the issue of this symbiosis between culture
and politics that would occur in Spain during the century of the enlightenment.
KEYWORDS: Pablo de Olavide, Ilustración, eighteenth century theatre, eighteenth century translations.
