In this article, we propose a reflection on the short prose texts we can find in Borges books from El hacedor and which, from that moment, constitute one of his most typical productions. We aim that such short texts are in fact prose poems, even though Borges himself does not refer ever to them by that name. For this, we will present and discuss the main characteristics and problems of the prose poem, regarding genre issues, form and content, and we will compare them with these borgian texts. Furthermore, we search for ideas that allow us to confirm our hypothesis in Borges implicit poetics. We also point out that the great Borgian contribution to this hybrid and contradictory genre is the inclusion in it of the essayistic discourse.
