Determination by indirect complexometry of the main fatty acid components with Ba (II). II- Assessment of fatty acid mixtures
Abstract
A new method is proposed for the determination of mixtures of fatty acids in similar proportions to those which compose olive oil, coconut oil and lard, after their neutralization with KOH solution, precipitating with a excess of standard solution of Cl2Ba in the filtrate with AEDT solution of identical molarity, using o-cresolphthalein complexone as indicator.
The errors found are small for the mixtures of fatty acids in similar proportions to olive oil and lard, and somewhat greater for those of coconut oil as a consequendce of the greater proportion of fatty acids of low molecular weight for concentrations of 0.05M and 0.02 M.
