Abstract

A new surgical technique in order to study exocrine pancreatic secretion in broiler chickens has been devised. Animals were operated under aseptic conditions to place two cannulae both into main pancreatic duct. Three days after surgery some chickens (n = 10) were used in chronic experiments and some (n = 10) in acute experiments being previously reanaesthetized. The recovering period of time from first intervention allows in all cases to avoid mechanical problems inherents to cannulation of pancreatic duct. This methodologic advance has been achieved for the first time. Our technique allows us to establish main differences of flow and enzima tic and electrolitic composition of pancreatic juice in animals either conscious or anaesthetized. OUr preparation works properly as showed not only because flow and composition of pancreatic juice keep constant, and because the long survival period of animals but also by the histological postmortem controls.
