This article aims to explore the different approaches to the use of language in literary theory and comparative literature. To do so, firstly, some of the most common linguistic attitudes among literary theorists will be analyzed. After that, we will connect a series of hypotheses and vocabularies that may be useful in rethinking words’ critical value, such as Ludwig Wittgenstein’s family resemblance, Mieke Bal’s travelling concepts, Eleanor Rosch’s prototype theory, or Roland Barthes’ acratic discourse.
