This article aims to offer an overview of the current situation of Iberian Studies, a “new”, “emerging” or “growing” field (as it is usually described), in a constant process of self-analysis and reconfiguration. Special attention will be given to the criticisms and debates that have appeared inside the field, and some of its weaknesses and limitations will be noted. Lastly, some possible alternatives for renewing or widening the field will be outlined, through which Iberian Studies will be able to fulfill its innovative potential, overcoming the temptation to become attached to a certain Iberian canon and historiography that stands as an alternative to the national canons, but which is from a methodological and ideological perspective their equivalent.Downloads
