Abstract

Literary translation in the form of "free-style" has its own specificity in terms of the creative identity the translator and artistic perception of the foreign-language reader.

The "free-style translation" of E.D. Polivanov 's fragment from "The Great March" is preceded by his work on a interlinear translation of the epic "Manas," as well as an analysis of the metric Kyrgyz verse published in the article "About the Principles of the Russian Translation of the Epic" Manas".

The explanatory footnotes of Turkic words denoting domestic, cultural and geographical realities create a national entourage of epics in the free-style translation.

Analysis of the Polivanian free-style translation showed that free interpretation of the epic poetics and epic realities led to some loss of national expression, archaic epic style. However, the poetic composition of the verses in the Polivinian translation is saturated with phonetic repeats using canonized epic alliterations and redifs.

In general, the free-style translation of the epic has a setting to the Russian reader with a reminder of the tradition of Russian folklore and has the style of Russian written poetry of the 19th century.
