In this article we study Biblical rewritings in the work of Borges, starting from what we propose to conceive as a series of texts which we call “cuentos de sacrificio”.This series consists of those stories that can be read in a hypertextual relationship to the Gospel accounts of the Passion of Christ, a topic that, beyond occasional remarks, has not been systematically examined by the critic. Borges himself said that the story of “un dios que se hace sacrificar en el Gólgota”, as told in the Gospels, is one of the few stories that men have always repeated (“Elevangelio según Marcos”, 1970). In this paper we propose, as part of an ongoing investigation, the productivity of the notion of “sacrificial mechanism” –as it has been developed, fundamentally, by René Girard– for reading these “cuentos desacrificio”, and present an analysis of the story that opens this series: “Tema deltraidor y del héroe” (1944).Downloads
