The Ecuadorian poets, Aleyda Quevedo (Quito, 1972) and Juan Secaira (Quito, 1971), have published different autobiographical texts that relate to physical problems and diseases. This study analyzes the collection of poems Soy mi cuerpo [I am my body] (2006), by Aleyda Quevedo, and different poetic compositions by Juan Secaira, especially those included in his book El Confín de los Apremios [The Frontier of Urges] (2020). The theory about personal identity and confrontation with the disease, developed by researcher Arthur W. Frank, has been applied in the present study, and it has been supplemented with the reflections on therapy and art by scholar Gillie Bolton.
