Abstract

In this essay we would like to deal with the symbolism of light/darkness in the hymnes of Cathemerinon and Peristephanon by Prudentius. We are really sure of the high interest this theme seems to be in the whole of Prudentius writings. Not only does Prudentius use the terms light 1 darkness in their main sense but also in the metaphoric, appearing in the last one more often, so as usually in the Peristephanon than in the Cathemerinon. We also analyse in which way this symbolism seems to appear in the hymnes of the same author.
