Abstract

The sea appears in Viperano's ocles many a time. We find there the genuine sea, where the battle at Lepanto took place, but also a poetical sea, where mythic beings live in; a dangerous sea that the poet warns against in his moral ocles; and a metaphorical sea, that supplies various allegorical uses.
