Abstract

In this paper, I study the phenomenon of the predominance of the import of marbles from the Eastem Mediterranean over the Baetican marble export, which was almost nonexistent, as a result of the strong competition of the Imperial quarries and other great marble exploitations and the networks of distribution organized around the fore-mentioned quarries and the great coastal marble yards. I also try an approach to the knowledge of the distribution levels reached by the Baetican marbles, of the main centres of incoming of the provincial and irnported marbles, of the main ways used for the marble transport and of the means of transporting utilized in every case.
