Abstract

From its origins, the christian monasticism spread in a spectacular way until it reached Hispania where it chose a precise monastic life, clearly, in two specific areas, the Northwest (Gallaecia) and the South (Baetica). In this study, we are going to make a list of all the monasteries known in the meridional area thanks to the information given by the literary and epigraphic sources.
