Abstract

This paper is a study of the motives of the Classical Tradition in the work of the Uruguayan poet Julio Herrera y Reissig (Montevideo, 1875-1910). This article addresses three questions: 1. The pastoral poetry: bucolic poems and eclogues. 2. Irony, parody, deformation. Carnival literature. 3. Orphism, pythagorism, platonism.
